WATER TOWERS

Reconstruction of Disused Water Towers/ Concept design

Description: In the old days people built tall towers with huge barrels on top. These barrels were filled with water- and the difference in height produced the right pressure for the water to flow down the pipes to every house in town. Over time, waterworks changed, but water was still kept in the barrels in case the town ran out. Today there are other ways to store water, so the old unwanted water towers stand useless and forgotten. I took pity on one such forlorn industrial construction: the disused water tower is now a unique and comfortable apartment.

Sustainable Green Apartment
Site:  The squatter settlement next to Beijing North Railway Station, Beijing, China
Concept: The site is a squatter settlement in the city center of Beijing which is surrounded by tall buildings. Most of the people living in such a filthy area  are migrant workers who just need a place to sleep. I want to use the water tower in the site to make a new home for them.
